Professor A+

Professor Denis Rancourt of the University of Ottawa told his 4th year physics class on the first day of the semester that they were all getting A+ 's. His hope was to take the academic stress off their shoulders by pre-assigning them the highest mark achievable.
He was fired.
And locked out.
And later, banned from campus.
The Canadian Association of University Teachers doesn't approve because "Universities are to be places that not only tolerate, but welcome vigorous debate. There would have to be some very serious misdeeds by Dr. Rancourt to justify this action."
I think that Dr. Rancourt is too cool to be a university professor. He could teach gifted with his out-of-the-box approach to education, but not university. The faculty is too square to accept his methods. I'm not bashing university staff, my aunt's a professor at Memorial and she's cool. But how many teachers are that cool? Obviously not many or there'd be more articles like the one we read in class.
Anywhere you go, some evolution-phobic is going to try to take you down a peg. The most common cases of this are in schools. Teachers can be so stuck in the old ways of education. The 21st century is a time of change! More kids are gifted. Students are allowed, no, encouraged to express their opinions. You used to get belted for talking! If you fight to keep the old methods, you will be banned from the university campuses. Don't fight the power of new-age creativity, conform to it. I hope that within the year and a half it will take me to get to post secondary education, there are more faculty like Dr. Rancourt!
